Make your own malt, crafted to your own tastes and needs. Be one-of-a-kind!
Customalting is a family-owned malt manufacturer located in the heart of one of the world's most diverse and prolific barley growing regions.
Every other source of malt has one major drawback: their roasters are too big. Big commercial roasters require hundreds of pounds of throughput, all from the same feedstock, sprouted identically, and roasted all at one time for a predetermined level of roast.
At best the feedstock grain will be from one grower and will be a variety that the grower (not the customer) has determined. But even that is rare. Most of the time the feedstock will be a hodpodge of different varieties, more determined by cost and availability to the malter than by qualities needed by the customer.
By sizing the roaster to batches of 20 to 100 pounds, Customalting can provide you with a malt carefully built to exacting specifications. And being located in the heart of barley country assures access to a plentiful and widely diverse array of grain varieties, at affordable prices.
DEVELOPMENT NOTE: When the Customalting website is fully built out, customers will not only be able to order malt for brewing, flavoring and candy-making, but the website will also have guides to help determine how each customizable trait changes the performance and ultimate contribution of the malt to taste. Indexes to the great malting operations of the world will help customers find "recipes" that are known and time-tested. Malting technology has changed over time and not every innovation leads to better taste. A review of the rich history of the malting traditions in Scotland, Germany, Spain, China, Australia and Brazil will also help customers pick a malt that meets their needs.
We hope you find becoming a Customalting customer is a fun, enlightening, and productive experience.
Sincerely,
Trent and Rebecca Clark, owners
